College Costs:
It's Not As Simple As It Looks.
The college will bill you for the cost of tuition and various fees. But there are more costs you need to keep in mind when choosing and planning. These include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Housing Costs. If you live in on-campus housing and participate in the school's meal plan, you will pay the school for room and board. Otherwise, you will need to consider the cost of an apartment, utilities, living expenses, etc.
- Books and Supplies. You're probably going to be surprised how expensive college textbooks really are. So you definitely need to factor this in as a primary budget item.
- Transportation. You've got to get to class, get home, and get around. If you have a car, keeping it full of gas and in good condition costs money. If you don't, you need to factor in the cost of other methods of transportation.
- Entertainment and Miscellaneous Costs. You can't study all the time. And there are lots of things you're going to want to do.
